7 Leadership Characteristics Possessed By Successful Women In Business

There are many successful women in business – and the majority of them maintain these same 7 leadership characteristics. If you want to be successful in business, you need to focus on these same characteristics – and many of them can be developed over time.

1. Communicative. If you want to be successful, you need to know how to communicate. This is a focus on many levels, including with your peers, your managers as well as those that you manage. Verbal and written communication skills are important because there will be times when you have to communicate in both forms.

2. Outspoken. There will be times when you need to speak your mind – even if what’s on your mind goes against what the others in the room are saying. Some of the most successful women in the world got to where they are today by speaking up and going against what the norm was. You may be able to reach success by doing the same – as long as you pick the time and place to do so.

3. Creative. What do you offer that others don’t? Some of the best leaders, male and female, have reached levels of success because they were able to think outside the box. This goes for being creative with the way you look at your everyday tasks, how you present material and even how you motivate your team.

4. Driven. Be sure that you have clear goals. Every successful woman out there was driven to be where she is today. If you don’t have any kind of ambition as to what you want to do in life, it will be hard to figure out where you want to go or how you plan to get there.

5. Organized. Every good leader is organized. You can’t be expected to lead others – or want others to follow you – if you cannot stay organized. Be sure that your thoughts are organized and you have a clear plan before you present it to anyone. The more organized you are, the more people will want to follow you.

6. Team-oriented. The best leaders are those who are looking to train others to replace them. The motto is always to teach someone how to do your job so it will be possible for you to move up. The most successful female leaders are team-oriented – ensuring everyone on their team is benefiting from things around them, learning and getting credit for what is being done. When you have a good team around you and your focus is on the team, it will ultimately make you a better leader.

7. Competent. Above-all, the most successful women in business are competent. This doesn’t just mean well-educated. It also means knowing the material inside and out. You can become competent within your industry by learning about the trends going on within it and knowing about what the other companies in the industry are doing. Trade magazines and the internet can be helpful for you to improve your level of competency.

Are These 5 Essentials On Your Wedding Checklist?

Wedding Dress For Happy Couple in Love

Planning a wedding takes a lot of work and planning so make sure these 5 essentials are on your wedding checklist. Whether you decide to do it all on your own or hire a wedding coordinator, there are lots of things to consider. Before you walk down the aisle, you will have to have a lot of things planned so your not a nervous wreck. Don’t forget some of the basic things for your wedding checklist as well as some things that you might not have thought of.

  • You need to be sure people know about your wedding date. Wedding save the date cards can be sent out six to nine months before the big date. This will ensure people mark the date on the calendars before you even send out the invitations. By doing this, you can be sure that you get the best possible turnout – especially if you’re planning a destination wedding.
  •  There needs to be some sort of music for your wedding and reception. This can be as simple as a harp player or as complex as a six-person orchestra or a DJ. You have to consider what type of music you want played and then go from there. Don’t forget that you may want very specific songs played, too – and the person or people that you hire need to be able to provide you with those songs.
  • Flowers are a big deal and mothers can usually help here with their expertise. Not only do you want to make sure the flowers are set for the big day but remember that you want to consider the type of flowers based upon the season – as well as the colors of your wedding. You don’t need just a bridal bouquet. You also want a separate bouquet that you will toss as well as boutonnieres and corsages for your bridal party to wear.
  • Something borrowed and something blue needs to be on your checklist. These are the two most commonly forgotten things – which can leave you running around at the very last minute. Something borrowed should come from the family and something blue can be anything – from a blue bow on the garter to a piece of blue jewelry. Be sure you have it on the checklist so it’s not left out of your big day.
  • Take the time to make an emergency kit for the wedding day and put it on your checklist. You never know what will come up on the wedding day and you want to be prepared for it. Some of the things in the emergency kit should be straight pins, safety pins, hairspray, tape and scissors – just to cover any potential problem that could come up. Assign someone this task and have it ready.
  • Another item you don’t want to forget on your wedding checklist is the gifts for the bridal party – as well as the father of the bride. Since all of these people have important roles for your wedding, you want to say thank you. Monogrammed gifts are available, but anything thoughtful will work.

If you don’t have a fully thought out wedding checklist, you could be setting yourself up for problems. Take the time to check the list a few times to be sure there’s nothing missing so the wedding day goes as smoothly as possible.

Here is a good starting checklist here you can print and a free wedding checklist excel spreadsheet here.

Top 10 Mother’s Day Gifts That Won’t Break Your Wallet

Happy Mother's Day Mom!

Happy Mother’s Day Mom! (Photo credit: kevin dooley)

I have compiled the top 10 Mother’s Day gifts that won’t break you wallet for those who are loving in heart and frugal with wallet. When you actually stop to think about it, moms are incredibly special people who sacrifice their own happiness and freedom in order to raise their children, often with very little thanks in return. One way in which we all stop to say thank you to the woman who raised us, is by giving a well thought out gift for Mother’s Day. But what do you give the woman you love most in the world?

Start by considering what kind of mom yours is. Every mom is different and operates using a different style. Some moms could give “June Cleaver” from the old “Leave it to Beaver” television shows a run for her money while other moms take spilled Kool-Aid, broken bones and muddy footprints in stride. Once you know what kind of mom you have take a look at our “Top 10 Mother’s Day Gifts” for some great ideas.

1. Bathroom Time

Sunday night soak

Moms often spend all of their time and energy making sure their children are taken care of first. In fact, moms rarely even get to use the bathroom all alone for the first 3 years of their child’s existence making a relaxing bath a luxury. Add to mom’s enjoyment with luxury bath gels and scented candles.

2. A day off

Moms, especially those with young children love time off. Offer to take care of the kids or call a sitter so she can have a little time to herself and just relax!

3. Time with you

Moms with older children all tend to agree that time spent with their kids is the best gift. Take mom out for a meal or settle in for a nice long chat on the phone if you live far away.

4. A picture

They say a picture is worth a thousand words and moms love pictures of their kids. For added panache put the picture in a pretty designer frame.

5. Something shiny

Hope all you moms had fun today!

Mommy jewelry is another excellent choice for a Mother’s Day gift. This type of jewelry comes as rings, necklaces, broaches and bracelets and is generally personalized with the names, birthdates and birthstones her children. You don’t need to spend a lot on this most items are less than $50.

6. Something luxurious

Moms tend to spend all of their hard earned money on others. Why not treat mom this year and buy her something luxurious she would never buy herself. Need ideas? How about a pair of mink slippers, a high end bathrobe or that fancy purse you saw her looking at.

7. eBook Reader

If mom enjoys a good book but never seems to have much time to read an eBook reader may be the perfect gift for her.

8. Gift of the month clubs

Gift of the month clubs are the gift that keeps giving and can be found to fit the personal taste of every mom. There are clubs for coffee, wine, cheese, flowers, chocolate, and everything in between.

9. Someone else to do the chores

Moms hate laundry and cooking. Ok not all moms actually hate doing these things but we will bet yours would appreciate someone else doing these chores for the day.

10. A home cooked meal

Best Gift For Dad Who Has Everything

I was speaking with my brother because we both were trying to figure out our Christmas checklist this year and the question soon became what is the best gift for dad who has everything? After all these years we have gotten my dad lots of great gifts and at his age now he doesn’t really want or need anything if you just ask him. So it requires a little thought to get the right gift he will still be able to use and appreciate without spending a fortune.

Kindle Fire: Out of the Box

Kindle Fire: Out of the Box (Photo credit: Brian Sawyer)

My dad is not so into electronics, his fingers are too big and the learning curve too steep. So if I go in that direction I need to keep it simple and something I can program for him. So small cell phones are out. But, I did him a Kindle Fire a few years ago and he was able to master that for his reading after I set it up and that is something that he can keep using because he loves to read. Another great thing about something like a kindle is that you can just get him a gift cardfrom Amazon.com and he can purchase more books to read throughout the year. The only downside is the kindle fire is $199 so it is a bit of an expensive gift.

The gift card is another great idea in itself though. It really eliminates so many headaches because it allows him to purchase something he really loves and will use and won’t have to return. Remember, he might not be telling you what he really wants because he doesn’t want you to pay for it. So never underestimate the other products he might find useful. The great thing about Amazon is they even ship it to you or to him in a nice box which can be gift wrapped. You can find Gift Cards here.

Christmas Gifts Ideas For Mom

Christmas gifts

Christmas gifts (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Christmas is fast approaching and we all need to start thinking about the perfect christmas gifts ideas for mom this year. This is always a tough one for me because my mom really likes us not to spend money on gifts for her. She would rather have something that the children made for her or something homemade. When we do this though, I feel like we didn’t get her enough especially when I open her gift with a nice $80 shirt. So this year I think I will invest bit more and give her both. Here is my list so far this year.

You could always give her a nice makeover kit or gift certificate for a nice local salon.

Best Men Watches Brands for 2012

I love nice watches I have put together a list of the best men watches brands for 2012 that I have seen thus far that are still affordable, nice looking and crafted by artisans. These watches look and act expensive but are just well crafted and a great value for the dollar.

Citizen has become the worlds largest watchmaker and their reputation is pristine. Their watches feature a new Eco-Drive perpetual calendar which is powered by light thus never needing a battery. It is majestically wrapped in a titanium case with black dial and white numbering for easy viewing and readability. It also has a 1/20 second chronograph, which is essentially a stopwatch built into the display that measures up to 60 minutes. It allows for easy time zone changes dual time and has corresponding alarm. The date is also displayed. The built in calendar also adjusts for leap years which I find important. What I find particularly pleasing is the masculine design and good looks. The brown leather strap leather strap and stitching give it a rustic look and feel making it a great choice for an affordable watch. If you look on Amazon this watch is almost five stars and has a whopping 181 plus reviews which says a lot about the quality.

Another popular watch that is beautifully designed and handsome are those by Swiss watch maker Tissot. An incredible story of a company by itself since has been able to stay in existence siince 1853, Tissot embodies what the Swiss are so good at, intricate and extremely accurate watches. This Tissot men’s watch is one of my favorite brands.

List Price: $450.00 USD
New From: $280.00 In Stock

This Tissot Men’s Watch has a black dial with white luminous accents and minute and hour hands. The second hand is a bright yellow for easy visibility. It has three chronograph sub-dials, date window and is composed of stainless steel with a black pseudo-leather water resistant band. It has all the precision you would want and expect in a Swiss made watch. The best part is that it is affordable and also has a very favorable rating over 122 positive comments.
The Citizen Nighthawk
If you are more of a fan of the chrome link bands rather than leather, Citizen also makes a manly men’s watch in the Nighthawk series. Like its cousin above it sports the eco-drive as well but is all stainless steel with a black face and is quite striking. This little eco-drive has a 180 day reserve packed in. This watch has a pilots slide rule built in and an easy to read non-reflective large pilots face and hands for low light situations. A very nice watch for an aviator indeed.
If you seriously looking for a watch for yourself or as a gift, look for several import components that can make or break your purchase. These are a solid watch brand that has been around for years and is know for intricate design and precision craftsmanship like Citizen or Tissot. Make sure it has all the features you need. If you are a pilot it would make  sense to have the slide rule and the Nighthawk display. Certainly you want a good looking watch that you can wear at work as well as a wedding. One that is easy to read in low light, has a built in stop watch and is water proof to at least 200 feet. It really comes down to what watch makes you look and feel like you. So take a closer look at these three timeless men’s watch brands and see which is the best match for you.

Great Christmas Gifts For Men In 2012

A few times out of the year I begin to frantically looking for gift ideas for my friends and family.  So I have compiled a list of some great Christmas gifts for men in 2012. The most difficult gifts for me are the ones for men, so I have found a few sources to tap into for some gift ideas as well.

Every man loves food. Am I wrong? It seems like they are carnivores at heart and lovers of barbecue and often fish and game. So one idea could be revolve around this notion. How about beef jerky!

Another idea I had which is more expensive than most is driving lessons or not so much lessons but race car driving lessons. Wher you can go to Watkins Glen and actually learn to race or To Charlotte and drive a few laps around the track at well over 100mph. That would be something they love!

You could also do something similar on a local level and take them on  a helicopter ride or a plane ride for  a few hours. If you are brave enough, do a twosome skydive and test the limits! Check with your local airport.

Top Christmas Gifts for Dad This Year

Christmas tree with gifts

Christmas tree with gifts (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

This year is a special year because my dad is getting older, he is in his 80′s which is hard enough to believe in the first place but I want to get him something that he could enjoy but that others might find appealing for their dads as well. So here are some suggestions for top Christmas gifts for dad this year.

One thing is not to over think the process and to stick with what your dad likes. Pretty much anyone likes food right? Well my dad likes barbecue and still likes to cook on the grill. The old grill is a bit of  a mess so a new barbecue grill may be in order. If that is too expensive here are a few ideas like the bbq rub they mention in there in the nice jars.

At any age dad’s always enjoy the comforts of life. This could include a good bottle of wine, scotch whiskey or a pair of comfortable men’s slippers. I know I enjoy them and I appreciate when my kids give me a new pair for my birthday. It just seems like my feet hurt more each year!

Speaking of tired feet, a pedicure is often just the right touch for a dad!

He added Wouldn’t pedicures (ideally 1 a month) be a great and practical gift?

I know my dad is not very tech savvy so I usually have to come around and hook up the tv or computer and fix any of those types of problems. It always seems that his electronics are way out of date so check dvd players and flat screen prices because they are getting inexpensive and he really might enjoy watch his favorite team play or a good movie on netflix or amazon. You might have to show him how!

Probably the biggest hobby my dad is involved in now is genealogy. He is infatuated with this stuff and who came from where. He has done extensive research on the family tree and come up with some interesting information. But some gifts related to this would be very popular.

Regardless of the gift you may choose for your dad, the most important thing this Christmas is to let your dad know you love him. Many times this can be done just reminiscing and going through some family photos. I know my dad gets emotional when we do this and just saying “thanks” for all those great years can make his day!
