wedding wednesday: a page stationery wedding

A special treat on this Wedding Wednesday, a real wedding featuring one of our own.  If you ever called our studio, you have probably spoken with Jackie.  Jackie is our production manager and has been with Page for more than 6 years.  In honor of her and her husband’s one year anniversary we’re taking a look back at Jackie’s wedding invitations and how she selected them.

Jackie and Tim on their wedding day in 2011.

Where did you start in your search for the perfect invitation?

I had so many beautiful wedding invitations go thru my hands. I always kept a copy of the invitations that I loved the most in a little bin.  I did this for almost 6 years, thinking “one day I will get married and I can use my favorite design.”  When it came time to select our invitation, I felt overwhelmed, there was so much to choose from! I also had to think about a bilingual invitation and providing information for all of our out of town guests.

Jackie with her dad who is Page Stationery’s master pressman. Yes, Page Stationery is truly a family business! Josue had two important jobs – walking his daughter down the aisle and printing her wedding invitations and day of wedding pieces.

So, how did you decide which wedding invitation was right for you?

I talked to my now husband, and he told me “everyone has different taste, and those brides did what they like, now you just have to do what you like. Make it your own.”  And he was right! Every bride has to make their wedding their own, especially when it comes to the invitation – because that’s the first thing people will see of your wedding.  From there, everything was smooth, Sue helped so much. At the end I got so many compliments from my wedding invitations – both English & Spanish.

Jackie and Tim’s Letterpress Wedding Invitation was mounted on a topaz border inside a magnolia pocketcard.

If you and your husband were getting  married today, which design would you choose from Page’s new wedding collection?

Quinley + Marc, definitely. I love the lined pocketcard. It is classic, elegant and beautiful.

This elegant suite includes a letterpress printed invitation mounted on a gold pocketcard. The pocket on the back is lined with a quilted magnolia liner and holds the travel information and rsvp card.

What other pieces did you have for your wedding day?

We had a beautiful wedding program with a letterpress printed cover. Our initials, along with the floral design from the invitation, were letterpress printed on the cover.  The program was tied with a matching blue ribbon.

Thanks for sharing your pictures with us Jackie! We couldn’t get through a day at Page Stationery without you!

wedding wednesday: art deco invitation inspiration

We’re excited about the release of our newest collection of letterpress wedding invitations - shipping to stores in early August.  For the next few weeks we’ll be giving you a sneak peek of the new designs and an inside look on what inspired Page Stationery’s founder and creative director Sue Corral in creating these pieces.

With Page’s recent growth in in-house capabilities, our new collection expands beyond letterpress. We’re thrilled to add foil printing into our mix.  We asked Sue to let us in on her jumping off point for the new catherine + blake letterpress wedding suite.

With letterpress printing, it’s hard to get a metallic ink to give a true shine, so I was really excited to incorporate foil printing into the new wedding line. As I sat down to work on catherine + blake, the gold foil gave me an Art Deco inspiration.

art deco inspirationArt Deco may have begun in Paris in the 1920s, but as an ex-New Yorker, when I think of Art Deco I think of the top of the Chrysler Building. It’s hard not to picture the way the top spire gleams on one of those perfectly clear and sunny New York days.

Gold Wedding Invitation

I’ll be honest, I am not usually drawn to the art deco style – it can be a bit too elaborate for my tastes – so, I tried to create a modern interpretation of the style, one that represented a fresh take on old New York elegance and glamour.

Making Your Letterpress Wedding Invitations

Custom stationery that is letterpress printed is amazing.Since the discovery of letterpress printing over five centuries ago, folks all over the world have used letterpress invitations to announce their matters in an elegant way. It makes a promising first impression to all recipients. If you are a bride-to-be, you are already aware of the chaos involved in planning a wedding. Even something that seems so simple, such as choosing your invitations, is intricate. These invitations are a classic way to announce any formal affair, and you should consider them for your wedding.

If it’s not clear how letterpress looks, you will be pleasantly surprised. In this method, a surface is raised and printed on to give a three dimensional look and texture. Then, it is pressed onto another sheet of paper. Since each invite is hand-fed through a press, slight variations can be seen on each one. Each letter is individually placed and pressed, hence the term “letterpress”. This only makes your invitations look more sophisticated and customized. The texture may vary depending on which type of paper you choose. Most people use pure cotton, but recycled materials work just as well and look just as nice. Even recycled cotton papers from the garmet industry are used for custom wedding invitations and other custom stationery.

These days many companies provide letterpress invitations and wedding stationery. Locally owned stationery stores are often a good source for inexpensive and personel that are educated about invitation etiquette and wording, or you could use a large, mainstream company. Usually, the local shops make orders faster, and you can receive the finished product in about five weeks. Bigger companies take, on average, ten weeks to deliver. Prepare plenty of time in advance to receive your order. If you still have not decided which type of wedding invitation you would like to use for your special ceremony, consider letterpress invitations. It will surely bring a sophisticated, timeless look to the affair.

Creating Letterpress Wedding Invitations That Are Right For You

Creating Letterpress Wedding Invitations That Are Right For You
The key to finding the best letterpress wedding invitations is to let your creativity come to life and get those creative juices flowing. You don’t really need to know what you are looking for, let it come to you. Why waste your time looking at Crane’s invitations if you are considering a modern wedding invitation? They are best know and specialize in more traditional invitations. Some of the better and more contemporary and modern wedding invitation designs come from more recent letterpress printers who are designers and run their own boutique letterpress company. This is the cutting edge in wedding invitation design and the best place to begin your search for a modern wedding invitation and other ideas for the ceremony.

Options abound for different types of wedding invitations and it is easy to get side tracked into looking at the many options available. This can end up costing you time and money and get your wedding schedule messed up as well. You don’t want those invitations to go out late do you? The best thing to do is to stay focused on the product that you want. For instance, decide if you are having a traditional wedding or if your wedding will be more modern. This should help in the basic sense that you can just not look at the invitations that are more traditional and focus on the companies to that specialize in more modern wedding invitations.

There are many letterpress invitations designs that you can choose from or you may design your own. Nothing is impossible when custom ordering, though do keep cost in mind if you are on a budget. Contrasting bold colors and geometric designs work very well for modern wedding invitations. You can even find invitations with ribbons or other embellishments incorporated into them. Choose from invitations with lacy designs, modern fonts, and unusual layouts.

Your wedding invitation is something that you want your guests to remember. One way to do this is to make the envelope appealing to the eye. This can be done using several motifs or a simple line for the use of special typography and monogram. If this is done you want to make sure that you also hand address the envelopes for a more distinctive look.

As you will find there are quite a few invitations available online. Some of these may be fine as they are, but some will require additional customization as we mentioned earlier. The goal here is to not have something that everybody else has. So to make sure you can create a unique design that applies to your taste and values that you instill as a new couple. Once you decide on the theme or color scheme for your wedding it will be easier to design your wedding invitations and decide what type of paper you want to use and as well as the thickness of the paper and composition.

By using the modern wedding invitation you are breaking with tradition which is fine. Just realize that many parts of your wedding may follow this same theme of breaking with tradition. So other parts of the ceremony may be unique. Like the way the flowers are done or the cake, these could be really modern as well. But this what makes a wedding so fun. Your are creating an invitation that speaks to your personally. You have the ability to make it creative and fun and end up with a invitation that you will cherish forever. So have fun and relax when you decide to order your elegant wedding invitations.

Creating Your Beautiful Letterpress Wedding Invitations

Creating Your Beautiful Letterpress Wedding Invitations
Your letterpress wedding invitations are a primary part of the overall wedding package. The wedding invitation is also the first thing that your guest see prior to the wedding. Some guests may even decide to keep the invitation as a keepsake. In order for them to do this it must be elegant and eye catching to say the least. It really will set the them and look of your wedding from that point forward. Usually a bride and groom will customize their invitation to make it truly person and unique to their taste.

Designers of wedding invitations offer a variety of unique wedding invitation designs and services that provide groom and bride a myriad of choices in finding that invitation that will fit their theme and imagination. From modern to traditional wedding invitations concepts and designs are plentiful as the imagination is the limit. Whether letterpress or engraving, both are timeless, providing the element of elegance and beauty you just can’t find in digital products today.

Engraved invitations are very beautiful. A skilled craftsman etches the text of the invitation, backwards, onto a piece of copper metal which is known as the die. The raised print that results from using the die comes from using a press to push the paper into the inked die. When a person looks at the back of the invitation, they will be able to see the indention made in the paper as a result of using this process. These invitations do not have to follow any sort of traditional format, but often use formal language.

Perhaps the most beautiful wedding stationery is produced by letterpress printing. If you looking for the oldest method of printing then letterpress would be the one. This is a very intricate technique but one that has been somewhat revised to accommodate our more environmentally friendly times. These plates used to be made of lead type or magnesium and are now mostly plastic photopolymer which is much more eco friendly. This process is the opposite of engraving as it pushes the plate deep into the paper, creating a unique wedding invitation that has a wonderful dimension and tactile nature that only letterpress printing can offer. Engraving just doesn’t have the depth or dimension that letterpress does. Especially when using thicker papers for wedding stationery.

When it comes to choosing between the engraved wedding invitation and the letterpress wedding invitation, both are comparably priced, as they both take a considerable amount of time, effort, and expertise to craft. While thermography is about half the cost of traditional engraving and letterpress wedding invitations, it also results in a lesser quality invitation.

When you are making your final decision be sure to remember the type of paper your unique wedding invitation  will be printed on. This can make a big difference in terms of the impression you get from the letterpress and whether or not it is eco friendly. Inks can also be eco friendly so be sure to ask. One of the most important considerations is getting samples of all the work to be sure you get a clear idea of what you are ordering. Good luck with your final decision.

Getting Married? Letterpress Wedding Invitations Are Your Best Option

Getting Married? Letterpress Invitations Are Your Best Option

There are so many options when it comes to designs for invitations today. They are almost endless. What I recommend is either letterpress or engraving for your invitations. These are the most elegant and the oldest forms of printing out there. They really provide an such a glamorous and detailed effect that will make your invitation stand out among others. Either way you decide to go, cost will be about the same for each of these medium. There are many pricing options available as well.

Invitations that are engraved are very elegant wedding invitations and more traditional. The art of engraving has been around for years and is very intricate and detailed oriented. A die is created, usually made of copper like a clam shell and the paper is and ink is pressed between. The result is a raised feel for the text of the invitation or embossed look and feel. You want t o make sure you always follow proper etiquette when you get these done. Your local stationery store or on line vendor can provide this information for you.

Gutenberg got it right when he invented letterpress printing. It is by far becoming one of the most popular and artistic mediums out there today. It inspires printers to salvage old presses waiting for the junk yard and brides to be to use for their wedding stationery. It is also more environmentally friendly as some companies are actually using these presses on solar power and making the plates to use from recyclable plastics and metals with a eco friendly water based wash out system. Regardless of all this the end result is what matters and it is the most elegant wedding invitation out there today.

If you are still on the fence and making a decision you want to realize that the paper and time are the most expensive elements in your invitation. Some of the eco friendly papers are 100% cotton but the are acid free archival quality and will last for generations to come. So be sure not to sacrifice quality in this regard. Look at samples of wedding stationery and of the work you will be purchasing as well to help make your decision.

Preparing Both Modern and Traditional Letterpress Wedding Invitations

Preparing Both Modern and Traditional Letterpress Wedding Invitations

Getting married is a great time and planning your wedding can be much fun, but you need to plan your letterpress wedding invitations around the type of wedding you would like. This involves choosing the type of invitation such as a traditional or a modern wedding invitation. You will find many examples of beautiful traditional wedding invitations that are engraved. You will also be aware of another method of printing called letterpress printing. This has become very popular for both traditional and non traditional and thankfully the pricing is coming inline with other forms of printing.

With the advent of ordering your invitations online, it has become very easy to customize and design your own invitations. This gives you much control over the entire process of designing in creating your own wedding invitation. It is now easy to design traditional or modern wedding invitations with a click of the mouse. Usually you can choose from a selection of motifs and simply cut and paste them or upload them to make it. This makes it easy to design whenever you like and in a matter of minutes. This allows you to create an invitation that is festive, elegant and fun for your wedding ceremony.

There are many modern wedding invitations designs that you can choose from or you may design your own. Nothing is impossible when custom ordering, though do keep cost in mind if you are on a budget. Contrasting bold colors and geometric designs work very well for modern wedding invitations. You can even find invitations with ribbons or other embellishments incorporated into them. Choose from invitations with lacey designs, modern fonts, and unusual layouts.

You may wish to use only a slightly modern wedding invitation and save the really eccentric designs for the envelope. The envelope, after all, is what will contain your invitation and how interesting it is will play a large role in whether your invitation is opened immediately or tossed on the table to be dealt with later, potentially forgotten. Whatever your envelope looks like, give great consideration to hand addressing them rather than having them preprinted so they do not run the risk of being mistaken for junk mail.

The essence of modern wedding invitations is really all about providing you with the opportunity to break out of the box of tradition and create a look that speaks to your personality. They can help to add an element of fun to what can easily become a chore with plain, traditional invitations. Whatever you ultimately decide on, be sure to order early and order extra so that you aren’t faced with the stress of trying to meet a deadline or running out of invitations. By the way, be sure to add at least an extra 25 quantity when you order your wedding invitation sets. People will always under order and then they are stuck with not enough letterpress invitations and may have to reorder which is extremely costly. It is like another entire order. So please order more than you think.
